Projects for schools
The exhibition “The Treasure of Spilamberto. Langobard lords at the border” is a great cultural project and can be divided into different environments through an itinerary that starts from the excavation, the study and restoration of the artefact to its presentation to the public with all the relative implications regarding set-up, information and tourism involved with an archaeological exhibition.Within this itinerary we have focused special attention on the relationship with schools, teachers and students.
This is demonstrated by the city council’s decision to present in advance the exhibition project to teachers in the area on 23 March 2010.
This meeting was a harbinger of important cooperation: we asked a group of teachers to help us – along with their stude
nts – to “explain the exhibition” to children. This led to an interesting text, presented in a pamphlet, which will be handed out free of charge to all children to help them understand what they see. It is the need to understand the story being told by the artefacts that led to the development of the project “Archaeology explained to children”, a series of brief publications where “archaeology is narrated”.
The one dedicated to the Langobards is the first booklet in the series.Various services for schools will be made available during the run of the exhibition: for students of the Istituto Comprensivo “Severino Fabriani” in Spilamberto there will be guided tours and learning laboratories.
For all the other schools that would like to take classes to the exhibition, admission will be free on Thursday and teachers can obtain documentation from the website. Guided tours and learning laboratories can be reserved and are paid separately.
We would like to conclude by thanking the school principal, Carla Martinelli, the teachers Laura Montanari, Rosa Bianco, Marco Amadessi, Carmela Norscia, Irene Romeo, Dario D’Angelo and Caterina Pizzuti in addition to students in San Vito of primary school classes 5A, 5B, 5D and middle school class 1B (2009-2010 academic year).
